Job Summary:

The German Marshall Fund of the United States (GMF) strengthens transatlantic cooperation on regional, national, and global challenges and opportunities in the spirit of the Marshall Plan.

GMF does this by supporting individuals and institutions working in the transatlantic sphere, by convening leaders and members of the policy and business communities, by contributing research and analysis on transatlantic topics, and by providing exchange opportunities to foster renewed commitment to the transatlantic relationship.

In addition, GMF supports a number of initiatives to strengthen democracies. Founded in 1972 as a non-partisan, non-profit organization through a gift from Germany as a permanent memorial to Marshall Plan assistance, GMF maintains a strong presence on both sides of the Atlantic. In addition to its headquarters in Washington, DC, GMF has offices in Berlin, Paris, Brussels, Belgrade, Ankara, Bucharest, Warsaw, and Tunis. GMF also has smaller representations in Bratislava, Turin, and Stockholm.

The Black Sea Trust of the German Marshall Fund of the United States (GMF) seeks a Consultant to assist the Trust with its grant making portfolio related to Armenia.  The Black Sea Trust for Regional Cooperation (BST) is funding programs that strengthen cross-border ties, civic participation, democratic governance, the rule of law and promote peace and mutual understanding in the wider Black Sea region. The broad goals of  BST include building trust among citizens in their public institutions and to strengthen this critical set of institutions; affirming the value of citizen participation in the democratic process; and fostering regional, cross-border ties in the public, private, and non-profit sectors. The Black Sea Trust has four primary grantmaking programs: Civic Participation, Cross-Border Initiatives, Eastern Links and Confidence Building.

 

Key Areas of Responsibility:

  • Maintaining communication with applicants and grantees;
  • Ensuring a broad distribution of calls/announcements for proposals;
  • Preparing proposals for the Review Committee and assisting the Committee in performing its task;
  • Monitoring and evaluating projects implemented with BST funding;
  • Updating BST staff and, as requested, Advisory Board, on developments in Armenia; and
  • Assisting BST and GMF staff in their activities in/regarding Armenia.

 

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Have bachelor’s degree plus a minimum of five years experience in grantmaking or civil society.
  • Strong working knowledge of civil society in countries of the Black Sea region.
  • Fluency in English and at least one language of the Black Sea region, preferably Russian.
  • Strong analytical skills, writing skills, and communication skills.
