Africa is re-emerging as a strategic piece on the global chessboard. It is facing an unprecedented demographic explosion, with social, economic, and political implications for both Africans and the rest of the world. Sub-Saharan Africa, encompassing a market of 1.8 billion inhabitants by 2050, will have a considerable impact on the planet in terms of migration, security, environment, and trade. While new global players are actively engaging with Africa, transatlantic partners are seemingly reluctant to adapt to the shifting realities on the ground. Africa’s metamorphosis, which involves profound risks and opportunities for the transatlantic community, calls for a more reflective and constructive public discussion on Africa.
