On November 15, the Young Transatlantic Network in Brussels hosted John Harris, co-founder and editor-in-chief of Politico and politico.com, a newspaper and website covering Capitol Hill politics, for a luncheon discussion on the outcome of the 2012 U.S. elections. The discussion focused on how the Republican Party will need to court the electorate, change their language and modify their policies to appeal to a broader group of voters, as support among the traditional republican base diminishes. During the lively question-and-answer session, the group of about 30 young professionals who work in politics, business, and foreign policy sectors, discussed the issues Obama would tackle during his second term, which would largely centre on the economy.
