The Arab Spring has brought about numerous debates on Turkey’s potential as a role model or inspiration for countries of the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region. Turkish and Western NGOs engaging counterparts in the MENA region is one way to build cooperation with rising democracies. However, Turkish civil society needs to develop know-how and relevant skills to effectively engage counterparts in this complex region.
