“China’s African Aid” January 17, 2008 / Berlin



Panel discussion with Prof. Brautigam (American University, Washington, DC) and Wolfgang Schmitt, (Managing Director of GTZ, the German equivalent of USAID, and MMF ‘90). The event was moderated by the Africa expert Denis Tull (SWP). The panel discussion was held at the GTZ representation in Berlin. Prof. Brautigam gave a presentation about her findings on China's involvement in Africa. Schmitt urged Western donors to bring China into their meetings and thus give it more of a stake in a responsible approach to development. The afternoon panel discussion was followed by a small dinner at the State Representation of Hamburg in Berlin. The dinner was attended by six African ambassadors (Guinea, Madagascar, Mauritius, Ghana, Togo and Uganda).
