WASHINGTON (Feb. 14, 2010) – The German Marshall Fund of the United States (GMF) announces today that Dymphna van der Lans has become a Senior Transatlantic Fellow in the Climate & Energy Program.

Van der Lans joins GMF from Sustainable Development Capital LLC, a specialist investment banking firm, where she was the director focused on renewables, infrastructure, and energy efficiency. Prior to that, she was responsible for BP Alternative Energy’s performance unit for distributed energy in emerging markets. She also worked in business development for Petrochemicals Asia and in the BP Group Planning & Strategy team in London before leaving for Shanghai as the commercial manager for BP Olefins Asia.

“Dymphna’s wide-ranging private-sector experience in energy throughout Asia, Europe, and North America adds a new dimension to GMF’s work on energy and the environment,” said GMF President Craig Kennedy.

Van der Lans joined BP in 2002 after graduating with an MBA from Rice University. She also holds a master’s degree in Chinese from Leiden University. She speaks Chinese, Dutch, English, German and French.

The German Marshall Fund of the United States (GMF) is a non-partisan American public policy and grantmaking institution dedicated to promoting better understanding and cooperation between North America and Europe on transatlantic and global issues.

GMF does this by supporting individuals and institutions working in the transatlantic sphere, by convening leaders and members of the policy and business communities, by contributing research and analysis on transatlantic topics, and by providing exchange opportunities to foster renewed commitment to the transatlantic relationship. In addition, GMF supports a number of initiatives to strengthen democracies.

Founded in 1972 through a gift from Germany as a permanent memorial to Marshall Plan assistance, GMF maintains a strong presence on both sides of the Atlantic. In addition to its headquarters in Washington, DC, GMF has six offices in Europe: Berlin, Paris, Brussels, Belgrade, Ankara, and Bucharest. GMF also has smaller representations in Bratislava, Turin, and Stockholm.
