Press Release
Former GMF Ankara office director elected to Turkish parliament
July 23, 2007
Suat Kýnýklýoðlu, the founding director of the German Marshall Fund's Ankara office, was elected to Turkey's parliament on Sunday, July 22.
In March 2005, GMF tapped Kýnýklýoðlu to establish GMF's presence in Turkey. Over the course of two years, Kýnýklýoðlu helped GMF develop policy programs, fellowships, and grantmaking activities in Turkey that encouraged more active and prominent Turkish participation in the Euroatlantic community. Kýnýklýoðlu also wrote widely on Turkey's place in the world. Before joining GMF, Kýnýklýoðlu was founding director of the Ankara Center for Turkish Policy Studies (ANKAM), and served as editor of Insight Turkey, the center's quarterly publication on Turkish foreign policy issues.
Kýnýklýoðlu took a leave of absence from GMF in order to run for parliament, and he formally stepped down upon election. He will represent Cankiri Province for the AK Party.
