GMF discussion on the Hill delves into both sides of the biofuels debate September 25, 2009 / Washington, DC
On Friday, September 25, GMF hosted a debate on biofuels and indirect land use change (ILUC) between Tim Searchinger, transatlantic fellow at the German Marshall Fund and Bruce Dale, professor at Michigan State University. The debate was moderated by Juliet Eilperin of the Washington Post. The debate, held in the Cannon House Office Building, covered most aspects of ILUC calculation and expanded on several key facets of the ongoing policy dialogue. Dr. Dale stressed the importance of a complete lifecycle analysis for biofuels and outline its proper application. Mr. Searchinger highlighted the hunger effects of higher crop prices driven by increased crop demand caused by biofuels.
