GMF Paris Fifth Anniversary March 21, 2005 / Paris
On March 21, the German Marshall Fund celebrated the fifth anniversary of its Paris office. GMF president Craig Kennedytold an assembled gathering of government and political figures, business leaders, scholars, and media members that GMF’s work in improving French-U.S. relations is as important as ever.
"We know how very contentious this relationship is," Kennedy said. "We are trying to renew our commitment to U.S.–French relations. We are trying to get a more realistic dialogue going on issues like Ukraine."
GMF Board co-president Marc Leland saluted Paris office director Amaya Bloch-Lainé. "We are proud of what Amaya has accomplished in five years." The office now serves as the European hub of the Marshall Memorial Fellowship program and of GMF’s annual Transatlantic Trends survey of American and European public opinion.
The Paris office was GMF’s third European office, after Berlin and Bratislava, and helped usher in a period of dramatic expansion for the organization, from 20 employees five years ago to 60 now in Washington and six European offices.
