On November 28, the GMF Warsaw office hosted President Craig Kennedy who spoke on U.S. policy debates in the lead up to the 2012 presidential election.

He addressed the growing pessimism of American citizens who he believes, amid the current economic climate, have ceased to consider the United States a successful country and have abandoned the "Yes we can" spirit of the Obama campaign.However, Kennedy stated that Obama is likely to re-elected in 2012 due to the talent of his campaign advisors, the lack of a "Ronald Reagan Republication candidate," and the changing attitudes towards race in the country. He also remarked that foreign policy will play a minor role in this election, as concerns around domestic issues, particularly the economy, social security, tax and immigration, will take center stage.

A question and answer session followed his remarks, focusing on the future of the transatlantic relationship, the American take on the prospect of a "United States of Europe," and the U.S. shift in gaze from Europe to Asia. Kennedy also discussed the danger of NATO "withering away" upon the completion of the Afghanistan mission and said the key to strengthening the alliance is to find a fresh purpose for transatlantic relations based around common values.
