Gregory Craig, Robert Wexler, Bill Owens join GMF Board of Trustees
April 19, 2010
WASHINGTON (April 19, 2010) -- The German Marshall Fund of the United States announced today that three prominent figures from government and politics have joined its Board of Trustees: Former White House Counsel Gregory Craig, former U.S. Representative Robert Wexler, and former Colorado Governor Bill Owens.
"Greg, Bob, and Bill have long been committed transatlanticists through their respective works in national and state politics and government," said GMF President Craig Kennedy. "Their experience will help guide our organization through a challenging set of political and economic issues in the United States and in Europe over the next several years."
Greg Craig is currently a partner in the Washington office of Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom, LLP. Until January 2010, he was White House Counsel to U.S. President Barack Obama. In addition to his storied career as a litigator, he has served as Director of Policy Planning at the U.S. State Department, as foreign affairs advisor to Senator Edward Kennedy, and as special counsel in the Bill Clinton White House. He has taught at both Harvard and Yale Law Schools.
Robert Wexler is the President of the S. Daniel Abraham Center for Middle East Peace. In January 2010, he retired as a U.S. Representative serving Florida's 19th district. In the U.S. House of Representatives, Wexler served Chairman of the Subcommittee on Europe, a senior Member of the Foreign Affairs Committee, and a member of the Middle East Subcommittee. Wexler served as an American representative to the NATO Parliamentary Assembly and was the co-founder of the Caucus on U.S.-Turkish Relations.
Bill Owens is the Managing Director of Denver-based Front Range Resources, and is a member of five public boards, including Russia's largest ship and rail company. Owens served two terms as Governor of Colorado, from 1999-2007, and was re-elected by the largest margin in Colorado history. Owens has chaired both the Western Governors Association and the Republican Governors Association.
The last Trustees to join GMF's Board were John Harris, editor in chief of Politico, and Margaret Carlson of Bloomberg.
The German Marshall Fund of the United States (GMF) is a nonpartisan American public policy and grantmaking institution dedicated to promoting greater cooperation and understanding between North America and Europe. Founded in 1972 through a gift from Germany as a permanent memorial to Marshall Plan assistance, GMF maintains a strong presence on both sides of the Atlantic. In addition to its headquarters in Washington, DC, GMF has seven offices in Europe: Berlin, Bratislava, Paris, Brussels, Belgrade, Ankara, and Bucharest.
