MMF alumni in Los Angeles meet with French Consul General July 21, 2010 / Los Angeles, CA

French Consul General David Martinon with MMF alumni including GMF Trustee Nike Irvin and MMF selection partner Kevin Cottrell.

Leadership Network (SCLN) hosted the Honorable David Martinon, Consul General of France in Los Angeles, for a conversation with local Marshall Memorial Fellowship (MMF) alumni. SCLN is the MMF selection partner in southern California and is run by MMF alumnus Kevin Cottrell.

The discussion focused on France’s economic, cultural, and geopolitical interests in southern California as well as U.S.-French relations.  The Consul General spoke of his work to remind Los Angeles about the benefits of focusing on its transatlantic connections in addition to its Pacific Rim relations, as the transatlantic relationship can contribute to infrastructure modernization, economic growth, and implementation of sustainable practices.  In particular, France looks to help develop high-speed rail networks, explore nuclear power options, and supply more efficient aircraft to the United States.  Knowing the influence held by Los Angeles on the global entertainment industry, the Consul General also spoke of his work promoting French artists, musicians, and filmmakers locally and throughout the United States.

GMF would like to thank the Southern California Leadership Network, in particular Kevin Cottrell and Alex Pampalone, as well as the French Consulate General for the organization of this timely transatlantic event.  In addition, GMF would like to acknowledge GMF Trustee and MMF alumna Nike Irvin, who provided opening and closing remarks, as well as the twelve MMF alumni participants.
