TAParisEvent

On March 27th  GMF's Paris office partnered with the Transatlantic Academy and French Institute for International Relations (IFRI) to organize a round-table titled Natural Resources: the New Geopolitical Great Game. Dr. Stephen Szabo, Executive Director of the Transatlantic Academy, and Transatlantic Academy fellows Stacy VanDeveer, Corey Johnson and Geoff Kemp presented the results of their upcoming report on natural resource competition prior to a discussion. Executive-level representatives from energy companies EDF, GDF, and Total as well as experts and journalists were in attendance. The Transatlantic Academy fellows presented their findings as well as a set policy recommendations from their report. Of particular interest to the French audience was the matter of French-Europe-U.S. cooperation on resource scarcity as well as the number of roadblocks, such as the U.S. position on environmental issues. Participants also raised the matter of China’s growing global position and how the US and Europe could work together with China on the matter of natural resources, while at the same time recognizing China's preeminent position in the global economy.
