Regional Meeting of the Transatlantic Forum on Migration and Integration (TFMI) in Berlin March 12, 2012 / Berlin, Germany
From March 2 – 4, 2012, the GMF immigration and integration program in cooperation with the Robert Bosch Stiftung held the 9th Transatlantic Forum on Migration and Integration (TFMI) regional meeting in Berlin. Established in 2008 by the German Marshall Fund and the Robert Bosch Stiftung, TFMI is a network of more than 100 young leaders from more than 30 countries working in the field of migration and integration. TFMI consists of year-round activities including annual and regional meetings, spin-off projects coordinated by TFMI fellows and their sending institutions, individual professional exchanges as well as academic exchanges taking place all over the world.

TFMI regional meetings are set out to involve TFMI fellows in agenda setting for the annual conference taking place in August in Toronto, to reconnect the network and to give fellows the opportunity to present their work projects more in depth to get input and ideas from the network thus advancing their work. The 10th regional meeting will be held in Washington D.C at the end of March 2012.
The regional meeting in Berlin began with a reception and welcome by Marina Laker, Head of the Political Section at the Canadian Embassy in Berlin, Melanie Schuster, Project Manager in Society and Culture at the Robert Bosch Stiftung and Stefanie Jost, GMF Program Assistant, Immigration and Integration. The official meeting held at the GMF Berlin office began on Saturday morning with a presentation on migration and integration issues in Canada. Over the course of the meeting, TFMI fellows discussed the draft agenda of the annual conference in Toronto, networked and exchanged information on current immigration and integration topics and TFMI fellows representing ministries, academia and the non-profit sector presented specific work projects and the current work of their institutions.
