Religious Education in Public Schools: Going Parochial or Democratic? April 13, 2012 / Ilter Turan
When an education bill passed the Turkish parliament recently, the government celebrated, but the opposition raised an alarm about the secular educational tradition of the republic being under fire. The law has also been criticized for not being based in sound pedagogical theory and being difficult to implement. The AK Party defends its efforts to bring what it says is limited religious education back into the classroom after an absence of many decades.
