The Brosio Diaries: A look back at NATO’s future June 01, 2012 / Brussels, Belgium

On May 30, GMF Brussels hosted a luncheon discussion on the newly published diaries of former NATO Secretary General, Manlio Brosio (1964-1971). The event took place in Cercle de Lorraine and was organized in cooperation with Compagnia di San Paolo and Centro Einaudi of Turin. The publication of the diaries of Manlio Brosio, a preeminent Italian diplomat and politician from Turin, who skillfully led NATO in a challenging decade for the Atlantic Alliance, provided the opportunity to take a 'look back at NATO's future', focusing on elements of continuity and change in NATO history from the Cold War up the to most recent Summits in Lisbon and Chicago.
Panelists included Prof. Gian Giacomo Migone from the University of Turin and Prof. Umberto Gentiloni Silveri from the University of Teramo, Dr. Jamie Shea from NATO, and Dr. Emiliano Alessandri from GMF Washington. Executive director of GMF Brussels, Dr. Ian Lesser, moderated the discussion. Ambassador Riccardo Sessa, Italy's Permanent Representative at NATO and Dr. Salvatore Carrubba, President of the Centro Einaudi, offered opening remarks.
