Ever since Israeli Minister of the Interior Eli Ishai announced the building of new settlements in East Jerusalem, relations between Israel and the United States have been strained. In this analysis, Niels Annen offers a different perspective from Thomas Kleine-Brockhoff's article that called the settlements a "wrong dispute at the wrong time," and not worth risking the U.S.-Israeli relationship. Annen instead emphasizes that it's time to address big issues like settlements now, and that the U.S. is interested in finding a peaceful solution for the region for more than one reason.
