The Road Forward for Belgrade and Pristina after the International Court of Justice Opinion June 23, 2010 / Caglavica, Kosovo

On June 23 Ivan Vejvoda, executive director of the Balkan Trust for Democracy, participated in a panel debate with Ilir Deda, director of the Kosovo Institute for Research and Policy Development, and Oliver Ivanovic, state secretary of the Republic of Serbia’s Ministry for Kosovo and Metohija in Caglavica, Kosovo.

The panelists, in a debate entitled “The Road Forward for Belgrade and Pristina after the International Court of Justice Opinion,”  discussed Serbia-Kosovo relations, the prospect for economic and political stability, and the precedent set by different solutions and specific challenges to other frozen conflicts. The panelists agreed on the importance of communication between institutions in Serbia and Kosovo, and addressed the potential for future discussions on shared challenges, such as humanitarian and economic concerns.

The event, which received broad print, radio, and television coverage, was organized by the Balkan Trust grantee Media Center as part of a series of six sponsored public debates.  The Balkan Trust project, in which key political officials and leaders from business and civil society present their views on current topics in Kosovo society, aims to provide the public with diverse viewpoints and information on the day’s pressing issues. The debates are simultaneously translated into Serbian, Albanian, and English.
