This article engages with the debate on the "Turkish Model," arguing that indeed Turkey can be a source of inspiration for the reform movements in the Arab world. The article further contends, however, that Turkey's regional leadership might not be the logical consequence of the democratization of the region. In fact, a new democratic Egypt can rise as a competitor for influence. Turkey faces opportunities as well as challenges as a result of the changing regional order and is still to solve contradictions in its policy, such as endorsement of change in places like Egypt and Tunisia but a notably more timid approach in Libya, Syria, and especially Iran.
