Scientists have contemplated using fusion to generate electricity since the first thermonuclear bombs were detonated more than five decades ago. While there is some lingering skepticism about the viability of fusion power generation, the scientific community has convinced government officials around the world that the remaining technical hurdles, while complex and significant, can be cleared.
