Trilateral Strategy Group: “Growth, Innovation and the New Geo-Economics: European, Turkish and American Perspectives” March 03, 2013 / Istanbul

The seventh meeting of the Trilateral Strategy Group, titled –"Growth, Innovation and the New Geo-Economics: European, Turkish and American Perspectives" was held in İstanbul, from March 3- 5. The meeting brought together 48 prominent participants from Turkey, the EU, and the United States to discuss a range of issues.
The meeting, held under the Chatham House rule, began with a reception hosted by Torkel Stiernlöf, consul general of Sweden in Istanbul. On the first day, GMF Vice President for Programs Ivan Vejvoda, senior advisor to the Swedish Foreign Affairs Minister Olof Ehrenkrona, and Vice Chairman Ambassador (R) Volkan Vural, from the Turkish Industry and Business Association (TUSIAD), delivered the opening remarks.
The meeting featured in-depth discussions on the emerging European order, the outlook for the Euopean economy, the impact of technology, innovation and entrepeneurship, the role of human capital, and finally the new geo-economics in the region.
Participants included Marietje Schaake, a member of the European Parliament for the Alliance of Liberals and Democrats (ALDE) group; Ambassador Volkan Bozkır, chairman of the Foreign Affairs Commission of the Turkish Parliemant; two additional members of the Turkish Parliament, Faik Öztrak, deputy chairman of Republican People’s Party, Şafak Pavey, a member of the Republican People’s Party; and Suat Kınıklıoğlu, a former member of the Justice and Development Party in the Turkish Parliament.
The Trilateral Strategy Group is part of GMF organized by GMF in partnership with the Turkish Industry and Business Association (TÜSİAD), Koç Holding, and the Swedish Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
