U.S. Energy Department Appoints van der Lans as Clean Energy Education and Empowerment Ambassador
April 27, 2012
WASHINGTON -- The U.S. Department of Energy has selected Dymphna van der Lans, senior director for the German Marshall Fund’s Climate & Energy Program and its Economic Policy Program, as one of its inaugural ambassadors of its Clean Energy Education and Empowerment (C3E) initiative.
The C3E program aims to advance the careers and leadership of professional women in the field of clean energy. The U.S. Department of Energy partnered with the MIT Energy Initiative to form C3E, a three-part program of ambassadors, awards, and symposiums. As an ambassador, van der Lans joins a distinguished cohort of senior professionals who share an interest in broadening the recruitment, retention, and advancement of highly qualified women in the field of clean energy and are committed to acting as champions for the goals of C3E.
“I am honored to be part of this wonderful initiative as it combines two of my passions: promoting the global transition to a sustainable energy future and mentoring promising and inspirational young women in the clean energy sector,” said van der Lans.
Dymphna van der Lans joined GMF as a senior transatlantic fellow in January 2011. Prior to that, she served as Director, Global Renewables, Infrastructure, and Energy Efficiency at a specialist investment banking firm based in London with an exclusive focus on investment themes related to environmental sustainability. She also spent seven years working for BP International in various senior capacities in the UK, China and India.
