U.S. Officials Discuss U.S.-Indian Defense Initiatives, New Economic Partnership October 04, 2011 / Washington, DC
On October 4, senior officials from the U.S. Department of State and Defense took part in a roundtable discussion at the German Marshall Fund's Washington headquarters on the opportunities and challenges facing the U.S.-India strategic partnership.
The roundtable, moderated by GMF Vice President Ivan Vejvoda, featured Geoffrey Pyatt, principal deputy assistant secretary of state for South and Central Asia, and Robert Scher, deputy assistant secretary of defense for South and Southeast Asia. The two discussant provided an overview of the economic partnership and new initiatives being supported by the U.S. government. They also touched upon the future of the bilateral defense relationship and likely challenges confronting the two countries.
