What challenges and opportunities are global women’s networks facing at this moment in history?

Over fifty prominent women representing powerful women’s networks gathered at the German Marshall Fund offices on Friday, April 19th to discuss this and other questions.  Co-hosted by GMF and the Yale World Fellows Program, the event, “Global Women’s Networks: Unleashing Potential”, brought together women leaders from the think tank, nonprofit, government, and academic sectors.

After opening remarks from Susan Scanlan, Chairperson of the National Council of Women’s Organisations, the group engaged in a best practices exchange moderated by Sisonke Msimang, Executive Director of the Open Society Initiative for Southern Africa and a Yale World Fellow.  The participants—including Dr. Frances Colon, Deputy Science and Technology Adviser at the U.S. Department of State, and Priyamvada Natarjan, Chair of the Yale Women’s Faculty Forum and Professor of Astronomy—reflected on the achievements of women’s networks in helping women assume leadership roles at the national and international levels.  The group identified key opportunities for women’s networks to effect change by working in partnership to ensure that the gender gap at the highest levels of power is addressed.

GMF is pleased to host this and other events as part of its Leadership, Diversity, and Inclusion Initiative.  For more information about GMF’s leadership and inclusion activities, please click here.
