Biography
Filip Dierckx
Chief Executive Officer, Merchant and Private Banking, Fortis
Filip Dierckx is the chief executive officer for merchant and private banking for Fortis and a member of Fortis Executive Committee. He began his career as a lawyer at well-known Brussels legal firm De Bandt, van Hecke & Lagae.
In 1983, Mr. Dierckx joined the international legal advisory board of Generale Bank and as general manager quickly became involved in general administration (Planning and Control, Accounting, Economic studies, Fiscal Affairs, ‘ALM’ Department etc.). In this capacity he was project manager during the takeover of Crédit Lyonnais Bank Nederland. In 1997 and 1998 he was chairman of the board of Directors of Belgolaise Bank. Since 1998 he has been managing director at Fortis Bank. In that capacity he is responsible for investment banking and financial markets.
Additionally, Mr. Dierckx is a member of the boards of directors of a number of banking subsidiaries of Fortis and in this capacity has frequently come into contact with international banking environments. Furthermore, he is member of the board of directors in different companies of the Group SD VEV (Vlaams Economisch Verbond) and also a member of the Council of the Vlaams Economisch Verbond.
Mr. Dierckx has a bachelor’s degree in economics from UCL and law degrees from Harvard Law School and the University of Antwerp.
