Romanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) is the institution of the central public administration charged with carrying out the foreign policy of Romania in compliance with the legal framework of the government. This includes participating in the process of integrating Romania into the European and Euroatlantic communities. In the pursuit of its objectives, the MFA develops partnerships with other government agencies, civil society organizations, and the business community.
Objectives
Major objectives guiding the activity of the MFA include:
- Progressing Romania's integration within the European Union.
- Consolidating its accession to NATO.
- Developing Romania's relationship with its neighbors and with its partners in the Euroatlantic community as well as in the other geographical regions.
- Protecting the rights of those Romanian communities located outside of the country's borders.
- Actively participating in various forms of multilateral cooperation and promoting Romania's contributions through its international, governmental, and non-governmental organizations.
- Promoting the foreign economic interests of Romania's public and private sectors.
- Attracting foreign investments to Romania and to the enlargement of the cooperation with foreign partners on third party markets.
- Securing the promotion and observance of the rights and interests of Romanian citizens abroad, in compliance with international laws and norms, with the values of the human rights, freedom, and democracy.
- The MFA also promotes civil society and academic partnerships; it provides information and assistance to Romanian entrepreneurs; and it implements joint public projects and contributes to the formation of a foreign policy culture, in compliance with the status of Romania as a member integrated into the European and Euroatlantic community.
