Between Expectations and Skepticism: Obama in Berlin
On June 18, 2013 Heike MacKerron was a guest at a German television talk show about President Obama’s visit to Berlin. The discussion that was aired live focused on the accomplishments and missed opportunities of the Obama administration, issues in German-American relations as well as global challenges. Participants agreed that the early love-affair of the German public with Obama has given way to a more realistic assessment of the President, and expressed their hope for a continued strong transatlantic partnership despite massive demographic shifts on both sides of the Atlantic. The talk show was aired live by Phoenix, Germany’s public news and documentary channel. Other guests in the show were Ines Pohl (editor-in-chief of Die Tageszeitung), Gayle Tufts (author and entertainer), and Dr. Andrew Denison (foreign policy analyst).
