GMF welcomes new Senior Transatlantic Fellow
The German Marshall Fund of the United States is pleased to announce the arrival of a new Senior Transatlantic Fellow, Dr. Ian Lesser.
Ian Lesser joins GMF as a Senior Transatlantic Fellow from the Mediterranean Advisors, LLC, where he is the President. He is also a Public Policy Scholar at the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars in Washington, DC. In addition, Dr. Lesser is a senior advisor to the Luso-American Foundation in Lisbon, and an adjunct staff member at RAND. Prior to establishing Mediterranean Advisors, Dr. Lesser was Vice President and Director of Studies at the Pacific Council on International Policy and spent over a decade at RAND a senior analyst and research manager specializing in strategic studies and Mediterranean security. He was also a member of the Secretary's Policy Planning Staff at the U.S. Department of State.
His projects at GMF will include closer examination of the Turkey-U.S.-EU triangle, and he hopes to address emerging conflicts and rising nationalism. In addition, he will look at the new actors and strategies in the Mediterranean, and thinks GMF is well placed to serve as a convener for dialogue and a source of expertise. Using GMF's transatlantic networks and expertise, Dr. Lesser will focus on extending GMF's work in southern Europe, Turkey, and North Africa.
