As one of the world’s leading think tanks, the German Marshall Fund’s wide breadth of expertise is always available to policymakers on both sides of the Atlantic. In addition to briefings, GMF experts have often been invited by (Members of ) Congress to share their expert opinions by testifying in front of committees and subcommittees in both houses and on a range of issues. These testimonies serve to educate legislators on important matters, and give policymakers the opportunity to engage in discussions from nonpartisan scholars.

China, in its global quest for the raw materials necessary to fuel economic growth, uses its financial clout to access Central Asia's natural gas. Russia wants power of a different type. It seeks to maintain its dominance over export routes for Central Asian oil and gas in order to maintain political influence in the region and in Europe.
