12th Annual Congress Bundestag Forum
The 12th annual Congress Bundestag Forum, a joint project of the German Marshall Fund and the Robert Bosch Stiftung, took place from April 8-12 in Berlin and Bavaria, Germany. Participating in the Forum were members of the United States House of Representatives and members of the German Bundestag.
The U.S. delegation began the program in Berlin. Meetings with government officials covered such topics as intelligence sharing, the prospects of the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP) deal, and transatlantic cooperation on foreign policy challenges. Other meetings focused on the current political situation in Germany and the path forward for Europe as a whole.
The German and U.S. delegation then met together in Bavaria, Germany for a series of professionally facilitated conversations. Experts led intense dialogue discussions on topics ranging from Middle East policy to digital diplomacy and the environment led to the forging of new friendships between lawmakers on both sides of the Atlantic. The next program of the Congress Bundestag Forum will occur in late May. Lawmakers will travel to Istanbul, Turkey, to have a trilateral dialogue with Turkish policy makers, examine European and American geopolitical concerns both in and beyond the region, and visit a Syrian refugee camp.
