The Urban and Regional Policy Program (URP) of The German Marshall Fund of the United States (GMF) and the Center for Creative Land Recycling (CCLR) are organizing the panel “Around the World in 60 Minutes with Brownfields Redevelopment,” at Pittsburgh National Brownfields Training Conference.
The panel will take place on December 5, 2017 from 11:45 a.m. to 12:45 p.m., and will feature speakers from Germany, the Netherlands, and the United States for an in-depth discussion of how cities and countries around the world are approaching brownfields redevelopment. Today, the reactivation of fallow land offers cities the chance to ease pressure on available land, encourage economic development, and enhance quality of life by repairing the environmental impact and enhancing the attractiveness of abandoned or underutilized areas. The presentations will guide the audience through a deep dive into the approaches that Bottrop, Germany; Utrecht, the Netherlands; and cities in the U.K. and China are using to redevelop contaminated and underutilized former industrial sites.
