Experts and officials from across the public sector and international institutions gathered in Kyiv, Ukraine on June 9 and 10, 2016 for a workshop organized by the German Marshall Fund of the United States (GMF) Warsaw office. The event was organized in partnership with the Institute of World Policy (Ukraine) and the Foreign Policy Association (Moldova) and made possible by support from the Science for Peace and Security (SPS) Programme in NATO.
On June 9, the two-day gathering commenced with a policy dinner honored by Ms. Ivanna Klympush-Tsintsadze, Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration, and Ms. Irina Friz of the Committee on National Security and Defense in the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, as keynote speakers. The conversation over dinner featured a briefing from both speakers that covered topics such as informational and hybrid warfare, border management strategies, and Western engagement in southern and eastern Europe. An active discussion was then sparked by the participants who provided questions and further perspectives on East-West cooperation and consequent security challenges.
