A Conversation with U.S. Governors and European Ambassadors
On June 21, 2018, The German Marshall Fund of the United States (GMF), in conjunction with the National Governors Association (NGA), convened U.S. governors with select members of the diplomatic corps for an intimate discussion on increasing economic investment and global trade opportunities at the state level. Governors Herbert (Utah), Bevin (Kentucky), and Bryant (Mississippi) engaged in animated dialogue on transatlantic trade with Ambassadors Emily Haber of Germany, Kim Darroch of the UK, and Wolfgang Waldner of Austria, along with the Deputy Chiefs of Mission from Denmark, the EU, Japan, and Belgium.
Now more than ever, local actors have an increasingly important role to play in advancing international cooperation. Whether by featuring U.S. governors at our flagship convenings, facilitating transatlantic exchange through our Marshall Memorial Fellowship, or convening U.S. and European leaders for timely conversations such as this one, GMF works closely with state and local officials to ensure that subnational leaders remain prominent voices in the transatlantic dialogue. GMF is proud to partner with the NGA in these efforts.
