Refugees and Immigration - Mercator European Dialogue
Greece is one of the EU member states most affected by the refugee crisis. By virtue of geography, it has received unprecedented numbers of migrants and refugees over the past year, acting as a country of destination, transit, and first reception. This workshop will offer national MPs the opportunity to visit one or more refugee camps and/ or a hotspot as well as an analytical and participatory workshop on the issue. The workshop will draw on the experiences of the site-visits and will give the national MPs the chance to better understand first-hand the domestic and European challenges created by migration, the challenges of border security, the range of measures proposed at an EU level to address current flows, difficulties in implementing them and, finally, the need for a more coherent and common political approach. There are various options for possible hotspot and/or refugee camp visits. But as events on the ground are evolving quickly, we will wait to see whether routes change in the coming months, before we make a final decision. We will inform you of the exact destinations as soon as we can.
