What does it take to run for political office? As politicians serve increasingly diverse communities with exceedingly different needs, it raises questions about leadership styles as well as the capabilities to operate in political party systems. Although it is often argued that gender and age diversity in positions of leadership would improve politics, there is still no diversity in political representation, as the field remains dominated by older, white males. What can be done to overcome this gap? What are the transatlantic differences when it comes to plurality in politics? And how can both sides of the Atlantic learn from one another when it comes to diversity and inclusion?
