Ian Muir


Ian Muir joined GMF in November 2011 as a Non-Resident Fellow for the Climate & Energy Program.  He contributes research and analysis on a range of pressing energy- and GHG-related issues, leveraging knowledge and insights gained through consulting engagements with energy companies, intergovernmental organizations, and other key industry players. 

Ian spent over five years within PFC Energy’s Carbon Strategy Group, most recently as the manager of its Carbon Strategy Service (CSS) and related consulting offerings.  His primary expertise lies in the areas of carbon policy impact assessment, oil and gas industry low-carbon energy investment analysis, portfolio greenhouse gas emissions modeling, and emissions disclosure best practices.  In addition to his managerial responsibilities at PFC, Ian focused on analyzing corporate carbon strategies, alternative energy industry trends, national and sub-national carbon regulation, vehicle fleet efficiency forecasting, lifecycle emissions of gas and liquid fuels, and carbon capture and storage (CCS) development. 

Ian holds a B.A. (Mod.) in Chemistry from the University of Dublin, Trinity College, and is currently pursuing a Master of Arts in International Relations from the Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies.  He is fluent in French, and is based Bologna, Italy.
