Miriam Maes


Miriam Maes joined GMF as a non-resident Fellow to work with the Climate & Energy Program’s Energy Transition Forum.  Maes’ work with the Energy Transition Forum focuses on demand-side management, decentralized energy, and transmission and distribution networks within the energy sector in the United States and Europe.

Miriam Maes has worked 30 years for multinationals, of which more than 20 years managing national and international P &L’s. Miriam was leading “business-to-business” operations for Unilever, ICI and the Marmon Group (privately owned by the Pritzker family). Since 2002, Miriam entered the Energy sector, first with Texas Utilities (TXU) as member of their European Executive and subsequently with EDF, the world’s third largest Energy Company, as COO of their non-regulated network’s and Decentralized Energy  business ( £500million turnover and 2000 employees). 

In 2007, Miriam became CEO of Foresee, The Climate Change Consulting Company. Foresee is providing expert advice to major FTSE 100 companies at senior management level, in particular regarding a company or organization’s long term energy strategy, the Energy Efficiency and On-site generation solutions, and the funding and outsourcing solutions of energy management. Foresee’s clients include major FTSE 250 private sector companies as well as Public Sector Organizations. 

Between May 2010 and April 2012, Miriam was appointed as Advisor to the Department for Energy and Climate Change (DECC), supporting amongst others the Government’s Energy Savings Programme and the new Energy Efficiency Deployment Office in DECC. 

Since 2011, Miriam is serving as a Non Executive Director on the Board of ELIA, the Belgian and part German Transmission and Distribution System Operator, listed on the Euronext Brussels Stock exchange and on the Supervisory Board of Assystem, an international Engineering and Innovation Consultancy, listed on the NYSE Euronext Paris. 

Miriam has a Bachelor of Business Administration degree from Nijenrode International Business School in the Netherlands. She is a fluent English, French, Dutch and German speaker. Miriam lives in London with her partner and their 15 year old daughter.
