Simon Serfaty
Dr. Serfaty is a Senior Fellow at the German Marshall Fund of the United States. He is also Professor and Eminent Scholar at Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Virginia. Previously, Dr. Serfaty was the Emeritus Zbigniew Brzezinski Chair in Global Security and Geostrategy at the Center for Strategic and International Studies, and the Executive Director of the Johns Hopkins Foreign Policy Institute at the School of Advanced International Studies. His numerous awards include the decoration of Chevalier de la Legion d’Honneur, by Decree of French President Nicolas Sarkozy in July 2008. He was also the first recipient of the Award for Lifetime Intellectual Contribution to Atlantic Relations from the Europe-US Business Council in March 2006.
His recent publications include A World Recast: The American Moment in a Post-Western World (2012), as well as articles such as “The Folly of Forgetting the West” (Policy Review, August/September 2012), “The West in a World Recast,” (Survival, December/January 2013), and “Seconde chance pour Barack Obama, (Revue de Défense Nationale, January 2013).
