Congressional Study Groups

Congressional Study Group on Germany

The Congressional Study Group on Germany  is the flagship international program of the U.S. Association of Former Members of Congress.  The study group connects Members of the U.S. Congress together with German foreign legislators providing the opportunity for lawmakers from Germany and the United States to speak candidly with each other about matters of mutual importance.  GMF has supported the Study Group since its inception in the early 1980’s.  The study group’s main activities include monthly seminars and briefings on Capitol Hill, as well as an annual seminar that takes place either in Germany or the United States.

Congressional Study Group on Turkey

The United States Association of Former Members of Congress, with support from the German Marshall Fund established a Congressional Study Group on Turkey in May 2005.  This inititive is modeled after the successful Congressional Study Group on Germany program of which GMF has proudly supported for over 25 years.  The study group hosts briefings on Capitol Hill for Members of Congress and their staff.  Annually, Members of Congress and Members of the Turkish Parliament gather together in Turkey or  alternatively, in the United States for a series of policy discussions focused on relevant areas of concern.

The German Marshall Fund’s involvement in this project demonstrates a continued interest in anchoring Turkey in the Euro-Atlantic community at a time when the country will be negotiating EU membership and deepening its ties to the West.
