Trade after Brexit
- Ambassador Charles Ries, Vice President, International, RAND Corporation
- Sir Michael Leigh, Senior Fellow, The German Marshall Fund of the United States
- Dr. Ian Lesser, Vice President, The German Marshall Fund of the United States
Ambassador Charles Ries, vice president of RAND International, will present findings from RAND research exploring the economic implications of eight different trade scenarios involving the U.K., EU, and U.S. after Brexit. The economic analysis, which forms part of the report “After Brexit: Alternate forms of Brexit and their implications for the United Kingdom, the European Union and the United States” shows that the U.K. will likely be economically worse off outside of the EU. The key question for the U.K. is what post-Brexit trade deal will bring the greatest benefits. The research was conducted by experts at the RAND Corporation, a U.S.-based non-profit, non-partisan research organization, as well as RAND Europe, its affiliate, which has offices in Cambridge and Brussels.
