Michał Romanowski joined the Warsaw office of The German Marshall Fund of the United States in 2011, where he works as a fellow and senior program officer. His foreign and security research interests include Russia, Central Asia, the modern Silk Road, as well as the Caspian region. He also explores integration processes within Eurasia with a particular focus on the Eurasian Economic Union.

Romanowski has testified before the European Parliament Committee on Foreign Affairs on Russian, U.S., and Chinese 21st century Silk Road strategies. He is a 2017 U.S. Department of State leadership program fellow and a board member at the Centre for International Initiatives.

His analytical writings and commentaries have appeared in academic journals and media outlets in the United States, Europe, and Asia (e.g. Georgetown Journal of International Affairs, Yale Global, EUobserver, The Diplomat, Global Asia, The Daily Beast, Public Radio International, RFE/RL, European Parliament Think Tank, Rzeczpospolita, and Tygodnik Powszechny). Educated in sociology, economics, and international affairs at the University of Warsaw, he speaks fluent English and Russian, in addition to his native Polish.
