Congressional Affairs
The Congressional Affairs Program informs and educates Members of the U.S. Congress on transatlantic affairs. GMF does this through its grantmaking, convening, networking, and research activities. GMF provides a nonpartisan platform for transatlantic learning among policymakers on issues of mutual concern.
Grantmaking:
- GMF provides financial and programmatic support to the Congressional Study Group on Germany, the Congressional Study Group on Turkey, and the American Political Science Association fellowship program. These organizations work to promote transatlantic dialogue between policymakers in Europe and the United States.
Convening:
- GMF organizes monthly Member and staff briefings on Capitol Hill with visiting European heads of state, ministers, and other interesting thought leaders. These briefings offer a wealth of informed, objective, and timely intelligence and analysis that can help inform the work of policymakers here in the U.S.
Networking:
- GMF, along with the Robert Bosch Stiftung, organizes a yearly Congress-Bundestag Forum, a parliamentary exchange between influential Members of the German Bundestag and Members of Congress.
- GMF organizes congressional study tours that focus on key transatlantic issues related to foreign policy, economics, climate, security and domestic policy concerns.
Research:
- GMF research projects and policy briefs are distributed widely throughout congressional networks.
