ABOUT THE PROGRAM
GMF’s Immigration & Integration Program was established in the early 1990s to provide a platform for exchange and the dissemination of research on immigration and integration issues across the Atlantic. The Program seeks to enhance the understanding among North American and European stakeholders of the challenges and opportunities that immigration poses for receiving as well as sending countries and societies.
The Immigration & Integration Program applies some of GMF’s most successful formats and tools: convening young leaders and stakeholders to create a transatlantic and international network; and collecting objective information about public opinion. The Program’s activities give new impetus and information to policymakers and other stakeholders by highlighting upcoming immigration challenges, gathering objective data, promoting greater understanding among stakeholders, and stimulating creative and innovative thinking on immigration policies.
Transatlantic Trends: Immigration (TTI)
Launched in 2008, TTI is an annual public opinion survey that examines attitudes and policy preferences related to immigration in Europe, Canada, and the United States. It targets policy areas relevant in all countries surveyed and makes concerted efforts to disseminate the results to policymakers, the media, and the broader public of stakeholders in immigration debates.
Transatlantic Forum on Migration & Integration (TFMI)
The Transatlantic Forum on Migration and Integration (TFMI) is an international, multilateral network for young leaders and a learning community on migration and integration issues. Launched in 2008, TFMI has developed into a year-round, multi-year initiative involving almost 80 participants from 25 countries. It serves as the leading platform for exchange and networking among future immigration and integration decision-makers from both sides of the Atlantic and from sending countries.
Transatlantic Study Teams: Immigration
In 2009, the GMF Immigration and Integration Program launched an annual, large-scale grantmaking initiative, the Transatlantic Study Teams. This grantmaking program links the statistics of international migration flows to their consequences for sending and receiving regions. Through compiling existing data, policy analysis, and dialogue with policymakers, members of the Transatlantic Study Teams promote open dialogue and advance the policy debate on both sides of the Atlantic. Study team members are chosen through a competitive selection process. Candidates institutes submit proposals that are evaluated based on policy relevance, institutional strength, sustainability, and potential for synergies.
