GMF’s 2nd BUILD Conference Draws Los Angeles Mayor
The Bilbao Urban Innovation and Leadership Dialogues (BUILD) will take place in Bilbao, Spain from September 16-18, bringing together over 100 alumni of GMF programs to advance holistic and integrated approaches to urban equity and global engagement that cut across silos, sectors, and scales to create sustainable urban policy.
Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa, Mayor of Los Angeles from 2005-2013, will open the conference with a discussion of his exemplary track record in leading innovative policy reforms that increased equity within the city and heightened the city’s global engagement internationally. The conference will also feature the Mayor of Bilbao, Mayor Juan Maria Aburto, as well as a series of notable leaders in urban policy. The conference maximizes opportunities for peer-to-peer learning and networking through the duration of the conference. Participants are pushed to devise pragmatic visions that local leaders can utilize to transform their cities and make them greater places to live for all its residents.
BUILD began in 2014 and brings together a cohort of urban leaders for three consecutive years. The conference is sponsored by Bilbao Ekintza and GMF’s Transatlantic Leadership Initiatives and Urban and Regional Policy programs. We invite you to read more about BUILD.
