INF-Debate: More Realism, Please!
Nobody wants a new nuclear arms race. But there is no way around a European policy of strength against Russia. An Op-Ed.
Early December, the Trump Administration granted the INF treaty a last grace period of 60 days before formally announcing its intention to withdraw from the agreement. Until then, Russia has time to return to compliance or to find an agreement with the United States regarding adjustments to the Treaty. Europe is noticeably relieved over the postponement. The German Minister for Foreign Affairs Heiko Maas (SPD) already announced a diplomatic initiative to persuade Russia of acting in conformity with the Treaty.
