STG Online Book Presentation 'Partners of First Resort' America, Europe, and the Future of the West'

February 19, 2021

Bart M.J. Szewczyk

Non-Resident Senior Fellow

Is the Western alliance in an inevitable state of decline, or is there a way to repair it? Opinions differ as to the next step; however, while some take the current divisions as a given and advocate for the creation of a new group of like-minded democracies that would exclude the U.S., others seek to take advantage of the divide in hopes to advance their own nationalistic ambitions for a post liberal world. Based on their book, Partners of First Resort: America, Europe, and the Future of the West, David McKean and Bart M. J. Szewczyk lay out a path for a trans-Atlantic renaissance to restore a community based on the same liberal objectives that animated the West and built a more peaceful, prosperous, and politically inclusive world order. In this webinar, the authors will give a detailed presentation of their work and outline the driving motivations behind their thesis. The event will be moderated by STG Professor Kalypso Nicolaidis.
