Trump Supporters Storm the Capitol

GMF Senior Fellow Jackson Janes joined Deutschlandfunk to discuss the recent riots and violent actions of Trump supporters. Throughout the interview, Janes touched upon his impressions of the political situation in the United States, whether Trump can still exercise power following his presidency, and the congressional meeting as a potential turning point for the Republican party. He noted that “it is a great embarrassment for this country, a country that portrays itself as a place and beacon of democracy, that we actually allow this kind of an intrusion into the sanctuary that is the Capitol. It is unimaginable.” He added that the recent events in the House of Representatives demonstrate that “there are people who still remain hypnotized by Trump. The question remains open how long this will last.”
