I had the occasion to closely witness the transition of presidential power in the US in 2008 (from George W Bush to Barack Obama) and in 2016 (from Obama to Donald Trump).

In his campaign, Obama was critical of Bush for the 2003 military intervention in Iraq and the subsequent meltdown of State and society leading to violent insurgency, failures in stabilising Afghanistan since its 2001 military presence, and the global financial crisis of 2008.
