The West Restored? Prospects for U.S.-European Cooperation under Biden

December 14, 2020

Bart M.J. Szewczyk

Non-Resident Senior Fellow

The FRS organized a webinar entitled "The West Restored? Prospects for U.S.-European Cooperation under Biden," a conversation with Bart Szewczyk and David McKean to launch their book Partners of First Resort - America, Europe and the Future of the West (Brookings Institution, 2020), on Wednesday, December 9 from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. CET.

In their new book, the authors outline a “transatlantic renaissance” and reflect on how U.S. and European leaders can work together to craft a new Atlantic Charter that would restore the liberal objectives that animated the Western alliance for more than seven decades and reinvent the transatlantic partnership for the challenges of our time.

During the Obama-Biden administration, David McKean served as Director of Policy Planning at the U.S. Department of State and as U.S. Ambassador to Luxembourg. Bart Szewczyk served on the Policy Planning Staff at the U.S. Department of State and as senior policy advisor to the U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations. Both have also served as policy volunteers on the Biden for President campaign.
