Setting the Stage and Global Outlook: Upholding the Rules-Based International Order

The next decade will see growing geopolitical and systemic competition. A more assertive China, along with a growing number of other authoritarian countries, is increasingly challenging democratic norms and putting pressure on the rules-based international order. To preserve and revitalize the rules-based international order, NATO needs to deepen its relationships with existing and new like-minded partners around the world, particularly in the Indo-Pacific region. This panel will address the role and stakes of NATO in upholding the rules-based international order.

How can NATO work more effectively with its global partners, especially in Indo-Pacific? What constraints exist for closer cooperation? And what is the potential for additional partnerships in the Indo-Pacific, including with India?
